Hers is a heavy burden,
Underestimated because of her gender,
Within lies pain, depression and suicidal
Her creation’s initial design was to be a helper,
but constantly she is reduced to nothingness
by a misogynistic society.
Into a marriage she enters hoping to fulfill
her feminine roles,
He pledges loyalty to her and initially
As years go by he overlooks her, ill-treats her
and takes her for granted.
“My eyes are for you only” he’d promised
but he’s broken his vow,
He indulges in adulterous behavior and completely neglects her,
Only if he could walk a mile in her shoes,
maybe he’d treat her better.
Even when treated like ‘rubbish’ she still
prays and worries for him,
She hopes that he’ll someday return
to his senses.
She remains loyal to him because
despite the weakness society chooses
to see in her,
she is actually strong,
She is a sensitive creature,
She is a woman.
Her heart is awash with so much love,
care and kindness,
“This” she wills to give even to those
who mistreat her,
She fights for her marriage that’s falling apart
because she is a fighter,
A fighter in the form of a
Society has low expectations for her
because she is ” female”,
Curfews are set for her by her parents,
For they fear the thirsty eyes lurking in the
shadows waiting to abuse her,
Sadly despite the innocence,
Her gender is occasionally exposed to such,
‘Rape, abuse and child marriages!’
Hers is a road filled with much agony,
She cries out for help but who is to comfort
her in this wicked society?
Her career path is limited by society telling her
she cannot be this or that,
Now she ought to fight for her rights
And to fight she will because she is a soldier,
A soldier in the form of a girl child.
She is intelligent and works just as hard as
those of her opposite gender,
Despite her efforts she is still continuously
She is subjected to an inferiority complex
due to constantly being undermined,
Treated like an underdog she doesn’t
ask for much,
She doesn’t ask to be in the forefront
All she asks for is respect, recognition
and fair treatment!
To acquire ‘these’ she has to put in
And she will succeed in doing so because
she is a fighter,
A fighter in the form of a woman,
She is a warrioress!
