WHO ARE TO BLAME?
THE LEADER OR THE CHIEFS?
BY: J.A., HAIFANN.
Thus, the proverb ” There is no wicked king, but bad chiefs”
Chief to most leaders, is a second nature. It is one phenomenon that they cannot do without. And almost all the leaders are surrounded by hypocrites and psychopath who incessantly misguide and mislead the leaders. The disheartening aspect of the whole thing is that, many leaders of today, like animals, ( behave like illiterates camel) bubble with sycophancy, they love praise singing and the undue honour given to them. Those who give them honest and sincere advice are in their bad books, and are the most unwanted.
It is a known fact that, there is no leader that is perfectly free from avarice and gluttonous tendencies. As the saying goes.. ” Every leader is corrupt except the lion”
The prophet was once asked about his opinion concerning installing a leader that demands his rights over his subjects, but denies theirs. The prophet (S. A. W.) said ” Give them their rights and seek your rights from God” ( which means the leader should give their subjects their full rights and then seek their reward from God) Sheikh Abdullah I Fodiyo, in his book Diva’ul Hukkami said, ” A leader should cleans his intention in the sense that he would run the affairs of his subjects for the sake of God and seek for guidance from God to strip himself of acquiring what belongs to the state. Therefore it is very great and worrisome if a leader is just and God fearing, he would overcome his shortcomings and weakness. But if the revers is the case he, would do as he likes.
A leader should know that he is not super-human per se and was not choosen to rule iron fistedly. He is chosen to lead and enhance the development of his subjects, socially and economically.
It is a must for a leader to present himself ( to his subjects) calmly and with a measure of awe. It is also a must for a leader to discourage sycophancy and rumour mongering talk less of telling a lie. He should not break promises. If he enects a law he should see to its implementation no matter the odds. He should live by his words so that the awe and respect the commands from his subjects remain solid.
lastly but not least, my dearest kings and chiefs, students of today are the leaders of tomorrow, therefore incessant ASUU strikes open the students to mandane desires and hence, destroy the country’s image. Please don’t allow this ongoing strike to scuttle the smooth-sailing education in the country.
I rest my case.
