*SLAVES IN NO CHAINS*
Confidence and self esteem, the duo words just like wild fire burned down the forest of fear in me making me ascertain the fact that we can, we will and we still.
But why is our own very negro nation nearly six decades old not yet to attain the feat of respect even among other nations of and maybe not of her own kind?
I once thought of the hallowed decision of our indigenous ABA BOYS willing to etch the title MADE IN CHINA other than truths MADE IN NIGERIA.Truly, we have lived to uphold the philosophies of tagging our very owned and made products with bastardizing initials; Fake, inferior, low quality relative to the exalted white man’s thing.
Imagine me taking out my beloved in the atmosphere of love to a feast of caked beans. So frivolous, silly, arrant nonsense and total lack of exposure to modern day civilization; words and maybe more spilling out of the vessel of propagation of speech and it’s synthesis from negros just like me.
Much more contempt is served to even the mongrels, breeds of our very own localized area.Oh! names that create a moment of laughter and ages of tears in our hearts.
Definitely, I am comming to realize, believe that two score years to the exit of the aged millennium that saw rays of the sun shine bright for our negro community to gain it’s legitimate independence; we became oblivious of the fact that we were yet to be mentally free from slavery.
Slavery that makes us believe the almighty white man is exalted so much by the most high and we created much inferior to him.
Slavery of designating the white man LEADERS OF THE MODERN DAY and we in turn following them to their defined promised land.
Slavery that promotes dissing of our very own, preferring imports to exports, a borrowed dollar to a legitimately owned naira.
Slavery that tells us we cannot, we will never, we won’t still.
Maybe we had our shackles removed but still followed with stretched wrists glued to each other.
Do we really need another 1960 to free us yet again from mental colonialism?
To free us from the cells created by our mindsets?
To take us from the grounds of the inferior to the tops of the superior?
To make us affirm the possibilities of our defined tomorrow?
To create for us a working system of our own, with our own methods, by our own rules?
I don’t know what multitude answers these may get but I believe today IT’ IS HIGH TIME.
I can’t say what date it is today buh I hold it true to be self evident that for Africa and Nigeria, IT IS HIGH TIME.
IT IS HIGH TIME WE MAKE TRUE FOR OURSELVES THE POSSIBILITY OF OUR ABILITY.
IT IS HIGH TIME WE VALUE OUR OWN WAY OF LIFE, SCIENCE AND CULTURE SAYING TO ALL WHO MAY HEAR “WE ARE GREAT AND WONDERFUL PEOPLE”
IT IS HIGH TIME NATIONS IMITATE WHAT WE CONTAIN AS WE OBTAIN WHAT IT PROMISES.
IT IS HIGH TIME WE TO OUR OWN VERY SIGNIFICANT DEGREE BUILD A VIRILE NATION FOR NEGROS AMONGST ALL OF GOD’S CHILDREN.
TIME I BELIEVE HAS COME.
TIME TO LIFT OURSELVES FROM THE QUICK SANDS OF INFERIORITY COMPLEX.
TIME TO JOIN HAND TO HAND, FIGHT SIDE BY SIDE AND IN THE END SING “FREE AT LAST”
TIME TO MAKE REAL THE PROMISES OF OUR DEMOCRACY.
TIME TO REGAIN OUR LIBERTY NOT FROM CELLS BUT FROM BEING SLAVES IN NO CHAINS.
